Successful Districts for FIRE

FIRE sent 35 athletes to Detroit over the weekend of June 16/17 with the goal to qualify as many as possible for the Regionals. 33 athletes qualified for the next stage back in Detroit in two weeks.

Jaylin Holmes qualified in two sprints and two hurdles, earning two bronze medals in the 100m and 200m hurdles; improving from 4th in the heats to a second place finish in the 200m flat; and winning the 14yo 100m dash by a hundredth of a second.

Jarel Jackson won two silvers in the 17-18 year old sprints and also led the 4×100 relay to a qualifying time.

Alana Bracey won the 10 year old girls’ Long Jump with 12’5″, and also reached the finals of the 100m and 200m sprints.

After a 12.68 in her heat, Marcedes Chandler won the Girls 15-16 100m dash with a 12.83 in the final. She also qualified for the 200m final in 2nd place.

Long distance pair Adit Dau and Lindsey Peters dominated the Girls’ 15-16 races. Adit won the 1500 metre run in 4:55.35, while Lindsey won the 3000 in 11:32.80 less than a second ahead of her team-mate.

Juan David Hernandez made it a FIRE double at the 15-16 age group with a dominant win in the boys’ race in 9:47.68.

Daniel Ewer ran his first 1500m race finishing 4th in a field of 6 in 6:10.41, and finished 5th in a field of 9 in the 800m with a PB of 3:07.15. It was in the Long Jump though where he had his best result: Having only learned the discipline on the Monday, he put in a 9’1″ in the first round and then a 9’9″ to solidify his 4th place finish less than three inches outside the medals in a field of 15.

Justin Davis won a 3rd place medal in the 9 year old Long Jump with 11’0″, and also made the finals in the 100m and 200m sprints.

Sophia Stallworth earned a silver in the 14yo Javelin, a bronze in the Shot, and also qualified in the Discus.

Elias Haddad qualified for four field events, the Long Jump, High Jump, Discus and his best result a 3rd place medal in the Javelin with 116’9″.

Despite suffering from nasal congestion Alexandria Austin battled through 100m, 200m and Long Jump to qualify for Regionals.
